Wednesday, September 21: Bible Study

IMG_0179

How can we be saved from all our misery?

What did Jesus Christ come to do on this earth?

The Bible teaches us that we are all constantly inclined to do what is evil. We are eager to put ourselves on the first place. We have a hard time doing what is good, if it doesn’t benefit ourselves.

The Bible teaches us that our human nature is evil. But also that God, our Creator, is holy. We cannot be righteous before God, if we depend on ourselves. The only way we can be righteous, is if we believe in Jesus Christ.

On Wednesday, September 21, we hope to study the Bible about these matters. We will use Article IMG_068622 of the Belgic Confession  as our starting point and guide to study the Bible about this topic.

You are welcome to come and join us for this Bible Study on Wednesday, starting at 8:00 pm in The Reading Room!

April 6: Bible Study: The Word of God

This Wednesday, April 6, our Bible Study will focus on God’s revelation to us. He makes Himself known to us in two ways, article 2 of the Belgic Confession teaches us. The first is the creation, preservation and government of the universe. However, we saw last week that because of our sinful nature our understanding of this revelation is darkened and we don’t know God through His work. Therefore, we need the Bible in order to get to know God rightly.

This Wednesday we will study the Bible and what it teaches us about God’s revelation to us in the Bible. We will again make use of the Belgic Confession to guide us in our studies. This time, we will use the articles 3 – 7, about the canonical and apocryphal books, as well as the authority and sufficiency of the Bible.

You are invited to come and join us for this Bible Study on Wednesday, April 6, starting at 8:00 pm in The Reading Room, 5272 Grimmer Street in Burnaby.

March 2: Forgive us our debts

This Wednesday we will study of the Bible about prayer, especially about the fourth petition ‘Forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors.’ We all need the forgiveness of sins. But when we ask for forgiveness of our debts, do we really know what our debts/sins are? Will God forgive us endlessly, every time again?

Again, a lot to discuss. It is important that we study the Bible to find answers to those questions. We will make use of the Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 51 as our guide to study the Bible.

You are invited to come and join us for this Bible Study on Wednesday, March 2, starting at 8:00 pm in The Reading Room, 5272 Grimmer Street in Burnaby.

February 24: Give us this day our daily bread

Coming Wednesday we will continue the study of the Bible about prayer, now especially about the fourth petition ‘Give us this day our daily bread’. What may we ask for in our prayer? What does the Lord teach us about our daily food? Does this petition also deal with prosperity?

A lot of questions can come up when we are discussing the fourth petition. It is important that we study the Bible to find answers to those questions. We will make use of the Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 50 as our guide to study the Bible.

You are invited to come and join us for this Bible Study on Wednesday, February 24, starting at 8:00 pm in The Reading Room, 5272 Grimmer Street in Burnaby.
